Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss and Eating Issues

According to Calorie Control Council figures, thirty-three percent of Americans - 71 million people - are currently on a diet.

A survey in Britain found more than one in four adults in the UK trying to lose weight 'most of the time' – which means an estimated 13 million Britons are effectively on a permanent diet.

In Australia obesity rates have more than doubled over the last 20 years resulting in estimated 7 million Australians being overweight or obese.

It is a similar picture in New Zealand with one in three adults calculatged to be overweight and one in five obese.

People find it necessary to diet often, most of the time, or permanently because dieting isn't a long term solution.   Once a diet ends, the weight creeps back on and creates a further need to diet.

The result is the yo-yo effect called 'weight cycling'.   An individual trapped in that cycle can gain and lose hundreds of pounds over a lifetime.

How you can help us to help you

Medical advice is an important part of designing an effective weight control program, so it's vital that you identify what your weight control issues are before you choose to see a hypnotherapist.

Your local GP (or the nurse at the surgery) will be able to determine what your ideal weight is, advise you as to how much weight, if any , you need to lose, design a safe, nutritionally adequate diet for you, recommend suitable forms of exercise, and provide you with leaflets or suggest books that will help you to make sense of the information printed on packaged food.

You'll note that we have laid particular emphasis on the words 'if any' in the proceeding paragraph. This is because many people feel fat when they are not overweight at all – in other words they have a self-image problem, rather than an over-weight problem.

Hypnotherapy is a very effective method of overcoming difficulties with self-image, but it's important that you lay the foundations for personal change by getting the facts from a medical practitioner.

Hypnotherapy can help you reach your right weight

Everyone has an ideal weight that is measured by the Body Mass Index (BMI) scale which takes into account a person's weight and height.

People who successfully and permanently attain and maintain that ideal weight are not people who diet, they are people who make a decision to change their eating habits, their lifestyle, and their attitudes toward food and the role that it plays in their lives.

Hypnosis is a safe, natural method that dramatically improves your chances of reaching and maintaining your ideal weight permanently by re-educating your unconscious mind, modifying your behaviour, and helping you to build new healthy habits

Tactics you can use to help yourself

If your GP finds that you are genuinely overweight, there are many simple tactics you can employ to help make the weight control program designed for you a success:

n
Don't shop for food when you are hungry.
n
Shop with a list. Pay cash. Take only enough money for list items.
n
Store food out of sight. Store high calorie foods bought for other household members and label them – such as 'David's Biscuits'
n
Eat at regular times only
n
Always eat in one designated place.
n
Eat slowly. Chew food thoroughly before swallowing. Put cutlery down between mouthfuls.
n
Leave unwanted food on your plate
n
Don't watch TV or read while eating.
n
Leave the table when you have finished eating.
n

Dispose of leftovers.

Following these simple rules will enable you to break free of the habit of eating high calorie snack foods at frequent intervals between meals, and ensure that you don't eat unconsciously because your attention is focused on something else.

Most importantly, they will help you to stop eating food so quickly that you only become aware that you have eaten too much when you begin to feel bloated and uncomfortable.

You will find that if you eat slowly and chew your food properly, you will be able recognise when you have had enough - and will be the time, of course, to leave the table and dispose of the leftovers
